What to Expect When You Come In for Couples Therapy: 2 Phases —
Phase 1: The Relationship Check-Up.
During this initial assessment phase, we'll dive deep into understanding your unique relationship history, identifying both its strengths and areas for improvement. By completing an online relationship assessment and engaging in one or two individual sessions, we'll gain valuable insights. Together, we'll determine if couple therapy aligns with your specific needs and goals. While it's often the best course of action, there may be instances when alternative treatment options or referrals are more suitable. Rest assured, I'll provide honest guidance to help you achieve your desired outcomes.
Phase 2: The Relationship Intervention.
The next step is the intervention phase. Our main focus here is to assist you and your partner in making progress towards your therapy goals. During this phase, you'll learn proven therapeutic practices for you and your partner to engage in during our sessions and in your daily lives together. The length of this phase can vary, from a few sessions to longer periods. For most couples, I usually recommend regular sessions lasting at least three to six months. After that, we will assess the progress made and discuss whether to continue or conclude therapy. If needed or desired, additional sessions can be scheduled.
Remember, this journey is about you and your partner. I'm here to support you every step of the way, to create space for your relationship to heal and strengthen, through compassionate understanding and actionable advice to move you towards your goals.
